March-April

March 12-April 5 Cranefest

The annual return of over 500,000 Sandhill Cranes is always cause for celebration at the Great Platte River Road Archway.  The Archway celebrates the season with the return of the Cranes on Parade exhibit, films about cranes, and an exhbit about Native Americans in Nebraska and the birds that were important to them.  Sandhill Crane tours with a trained crane guide are available for groups of 10 or more by reservation. Contact Ronnie O'Brien for more information.

Schools can come to the Archway to learn more about birds and their importance to different Native American tribes, and their importance in Native American teaching myths.  Can't come to the Archway?  If you are within 100 miles, we can bring the program to your class!

April-May

Celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the Pony Express!

Special school programming will take place during April and May to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Pony Express.  Our newly finished "sod house on the prairie" location will be the site for this wonderul new program.  Be sure to call for details!

June 18-19, 2010 -Dancers of the Plains - Nebraska Tourism's event of the year for 2009!

The Pawnee once again return to their homeland for two days, presenting an exhibition of a pow wow celebration at the Archway. Plans are being made for the return, with special features to be included. Contact Ronnie O'Brien for more information.
