Lincoln Highway Curriculum

Did you know the Lincoln Highway (now US Hwy 30) was the first transcontinental road in the United States?

Did you know Nebraska has more miles of the Lincoln Highway than any other state?

Did you know the Lincoln Highway's Centennial Celebrations will be held in Kearney, Nebraska at the Archway in June of 2013?

In order to help teachers prepare the for Centennial Celebration, the Archway's Dawna Ourada has created a series of lessons about the Lincoln Highway.  Learning the history of the Lincoln Highway opens a window into the history of America at one of its great transitional moments; one that deeply impacted our culture and economy, yet was not during a time of war.

This 109 page, full color, curriculum is designed for 5th-8th grade students, but can be easily altered for younger or older students. Using a variety of methods students will encounter the creators and promoters of the Lincoln Highway, trace the national and Nebraska routes, comprehend how the Model T influenced America and apply the methods of building new highways to building a "highway" to the moon. Objectives are included with each lesson, as well as Nebraska Standards and bibliography.

LINCOLN HIGHWAY CENTENNIAL

CELEBRATING A MILESTONE IN U.S. HISTORY

From the Nebraska Director

of the National Lincoln Highway Association, Ronnie O'Brien

"At my request, Mrs. Dawna Ourada, Educator and Curriculum Expert at the Great Platte River Road Archway in Kearney, has written the first 5th-8th grade curriculum for the "Father Road" in Nebraska.

As we prepare to celebrate the national centennial of this important early route across the nation, we hope your school will join others in introducing your students to its incredible history, and the history surround its era.

Full of great lessons and activities that are easy to use, Nebraska's schools have the opportunity to purchase the first 'official' curriculum about the Lincoln Highway, Seedling Miles, Model T's and much more.  It's a bargain!"
